MA-150 Mechanically-Agitated Bioreactor

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Bench Top Biorector: MA-100 for microbial cultures; MA-150 for cell cultures

  • Control console:  use Industrial grade microprocessor and programmable logic controller; 9” HMI color touch panel and easy parameter adjustment;  Trend display and data logging of up to 8 process values; Battery-protected memory storage for vital parameters; Control of agitator speed, pH, DO, temperature, foam, filling level, substrate addition, gas mixture and gas volume (optional with mass flow controller)

  • Vessel: glass vessel size (total volume): 1, 4, 7, 14 L. Vessels are interchangeable for systems using the same control console, working volume is approximately 20-80% of total volume depending on operating conditions and internal configuration.

Glass vessel includes heating/cooling S/S jacketed bottom (std) or with internal heating/cooling coil (optional) that utilizes water circulation system (for lighter weight) and is good for both microbial and cell cultures. Also, optionally available with glass vessel with only heating pad and without S/S cooling jacket for light weight - good for only cell culture.

Head plate: multiple sampling/feeding ports, 12mm ports for pH/DO probes, 8mm port for temperature

probe; equipped with highly efficient air condenser or used as heater for exhaust gas preventing the

condensation on the exhaust gas filter; handles on each end for easy transportation; mounted with agitation

unit.

  • Agitation system directly driven by detachable AC servo motor for stirred vessels; Agitation speed: 25-1500rpm.  Optional with gear reducer: 5-300 rpm

  • Four gas control:  Air, CO2, N2 and O2 with std 4 Rotameters and solenoid control valves or optional mass flow control valves.  One entry through sparger and another to the headspace.

  • DO control: maintain DO above the setpoint (controlling in cascade Agitation, AIR, O2/ and Head pressure) *To use air to control air flow rate requiring a mass flow controller.  *Most efficient to use O2 and head pressure to control DO. * To control the head pressure of vessel requires a pressure control module (optional). • Four peristaltic pumps: flexible and programmable for acid /base addition, defoaming, and/or feeding. Two additional pump outlets for external options.

  • Communication protocol: two-way RS485 and Ethernet interface for data logging, remote monitoring and control from user's computer in the lab, office or home.

  • Power: 115v or 220v /50-60Hz

  • Dry weight: 70 Kg (approximate but varies with vessel size)

  • Autoclave sterilization or [OPTIONAL] semi-automated steam sterilization in place using a S/S cylindrical cover sealed to the S/S jacketed base and control the sterilization temperature by controlling the inlet of steam generated from a steam generator such as a small lab autoclave. In general, some lab autoclaves can accommodate 5L bioreactors with height of <70 cm. (learn more)

  • [OPTIONAL] custom addition of other sensors and any control capability at special request.

SPECIAL FEATURES

  • All vessels larger than 1L can operate at medium volume below 1L and as low as 700 ml using our special agitator. This is especially useful for cell culture studies which the cost of each experiment is relatively expensive in terms of the medium and culture propagation compared to the microbial cultures

  • The system contains an easy programmable software to alter the control set points including agitation speed, temperature, pH and DO as well as various feeding/flow rates in any preprogrammed patterns during the culture process.

  • The system is capable of operating at very low and accurate agitation speed as low as 5 rpm which is especially beneficial microcarrier culture during the cell attachment process.

  • The system has a special agitator ideally for microcarrier culture where a gentle and low speed agitation are required.

  • The control console for MA150 uses BioFlex control console which is a versatile, functional, and economical basic control console; capable of operating mechanically agitated and air-lift (or draft tube) vessels. All vessels can be used as a perfusion or biofilm vessel by using an external carrier column and a circulation pump controlled by the console (carrier column and external pump sold separately).
